(Trigger warning: disturbing visual images/mention of suicide) Two quotes from an article in Christianity Today. The first includes an accurate portrayal of the hopelessness our kids experience after graduation: Imagine, for a moment, the plight of an orphan somewhere out there. With every passing year, she will become less “cute,” thus less adoptable. In a few years, on her eighteenth birthday, she will be expelled from the system. She might join the military or find job training. Maybe she’ll stare at a tile on the ceiling...

We all joked about asking God for a sunset “between a 5 and a 10.” It seemed kind of silly for a minute. Then I wondered, is that really such a trivial prayer? Some people might think that for an orphan couple, to have pictures...

As Inigo says in The Princess Bride, “Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.” I’ve been here for almost a week, along with board members Ellen Jackson and Mary Millikan, but every day has been so full that it has felt like a month. When I’m away from home, my senses are tuned in to every detail. If I could choose only one word to describe what I’ve seen over the last six days, this word would be “community.” There are so many ways in which God’s people have become, or are becoming,...
