Family Homes

Those caring for traumatized teens must take a unique approach to parenting. Through their lives and their words, houseparents share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and draw upon God as the ultimate Healer and the solution to the many challenges facing orphan graduates.

Last Bell provides family for the graduates of Orphanage #4 through two homes, The Shelter and the Haven. The Shelter opened in the fall of 2007 and the Haven opened in the fall of 2009. Both are run by teams of houseparents who have one generation of “adult children” and are preparing to take in the next graduating classes.

All of our graduates are served in several ways through their relationships with staff:

  • They learn about Jesus Christ, and how a relationship with Him is lived out every day.
  • The staff love and pursue them unconditionally, which is the only way for the kids to experience healing in relationships after years of neglect and being alone.
  • The staff support them in all aspects of their life, just as parents would: they go with them to medical appointments, make sure they have the legal help they need, encourage them with homework and school attendance, provide family support for teen moms, visit those in prison.
  • They learn independent living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and wisely taking care of property and possessions.

Most importantly kids see how Jesus Christ wants to renew and restore every day of their lives.  Houseparents are available to address each teen’s questions and fears with the love, comfort and wisdom of our Lord and His Word.

Kids respond in different ways to help offered. No graduate of Orphanage #4 is left without help, and every graduate is offered as much help as they are willing to receive.
